Two major events are causing major challenges to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program or SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps): The current government could cause short term disruptions and this year’s federal budget could reduce funding by 187 billion over the next ten years.
It is estimated there are 1.5 million SNAP recipients in Los Angeles County alone. Government shutdowns and funding cuts have real effects. Your friends and neighbors may face food insecurity and the plethora of other health problems that can lead to.
A local organization that Best in Nature has provided additional support to this year is the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
Their work is of particular importance in 2025 with 1 in 4 LA County residents experiencing food insecurity. For over 50 years, the organization has tried to make sure families in Los Angeles have access to food. During that time, they’ve provided more than 1.6 billion meals.
