On January 21st 2023, attendees gathered at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park to celebrate the Lunar New Year for the first time in several years. A night that was meant to be a celebration and signify a return to normal instead turned to tragedy when a gunman entered the ballroom and killed 11 people.

Monterey Park is a community close to our hearts and we wanted to contribute and share these resources so the families of victims can get the help they need.

Tragically, just two days later, 7 more people were killed in Half-Moon Bay, CA.

For journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association has put together resources on covering stories involving the Asian community including guidance on name pronunciation and more.

As a result of certain cultural knowledge, it is often Asian and Asian-American journalists who cover violence in the Asian community. Journalists can struggle to cope with the weight of these stories so AAJA has put together Mental Health Resources that can be viewed here

We encourage you to contribute to, share, or use these resources as these communities heal.
